Lone Star College-North Harris Campus Outfits Classrooms And Labs With Hitachi CP-X615 And CP-X417 3LCD Projectors
The Lone Star College-North Harris campus in Texas recently purchased 147 Hitachi 3LCD projectors for its classrooms and labs, in an effort to provide students with state-of-the-art presentation technology for a more dynamic learning experience. Troxell Communications sold and installed the projectors throughout the Lone Star College-North Harris campus. The majority of the projectors are the CP-X615 and CP-X417 models.
The Lone Star College System is a publicly supported, 2-year comprehensive community college system, involving diverse individuals, businesses, and the community in quality education opportunities for the successful development of knowledge, skills, and attitudes for a rapidly changing world. The North Harris campus, nestled on 200 acres of piney woods, is the original college in the Lone Star College System family. Celebrating 36 years of service in 2009, LSC-North Harris opened its doors in 1973 and offers more than 80 programs of study, including university-transfer and numerous workforce education courses and programs. Lone Star College-North Harris is keenly focused on leading-edge technology in emerging technical job fields.
According to Butch Juelg, director of technology services for the Lone Star College-North Harris campus, the decision to purchase Hitachi projectors was rooted in reliability, easy maintenance and networking capability, all of which contribute to an overall lower cost of ownership. “Hitachi has made significant improvements over the years with regards to ease of maintenance, such as bulb replacement and filter cleaning when mounted to the ceiling in our classrooms,” Mr. Juelg said. “Because we are able to network the projectors, we have a central control system that allows us to monitor bulb life and be proactive on maintenance, such as the cleaning of the filters. If something malfunctions when a projector is in use, the class will never get that time back, therefore, it is extremely important that we have reliable equipment and a great monitoring system. Hitachi projectors help us do that each and every day throughout our campus.”
The Hitachi CP-X615 and CP-417 3LCD projectors offer built-in networking, which allows for the monitoring and management of one or more projectors from a remote location. With Hitachi’s proprietary PJ Man software, users can easily monitor the status of the projector (or many projectors), such as power on/off, input source, lamp/filter hours and condition. In addition, the software allows for control over these functions. Users can also schedule power on/off events on an hourly, daily and weekly basis. Events can be applied to an individual or group of Hitachi projectors. Other features such as e-mail alerts for scheduled maintenance or error conditions, as well as password protection, give the user a new level of control at no extra charge.
With technology becoming ever more ubiquitous in day-to-day life, the implementation of projection technology at Lone Star is also a response to the growing technological savvy of the average student. “Students today need to be actively engaged in the learning process with both verbal instruction and visual instruction,” Mr. Juelg noted. “It is important to provide our faculty with the tools that allow them to provide this type of instruction to the students, which in turn provides a higher degree of understanding among the students.”
What’s more, to help bring the faculty up to speed with the new technology, Mr. Juelg and his team created quick reference guides for each classroom and lab, while also offering a wide variety of training opportunities to members of the staff that use the equipment.
“With 60 percent of our faculty being part-time, we needed to make the operation of the AV systems in the rooms as seamless as possible,” Mr. Juelg added. “These faculty members are only on campus for one or two classes each week, usually in the evenings, so training opportunities are scarce at best. We were able to combine the features of the Hitachi projectors with an AV control system to give them an extremely easy system to learn and operate.”

By using the CP-DW10N’s PIN lock, the projector can limit the number of users. In addition, the transition detector can prevent unauthorized use of the projector.

Bid on the City And CitiNet Consulting Utilize Hitachi 3LCD Projectors To Create Dynamic Real Estate Property Displays
-- CitiNet Consulting Installed Hitachi CP-X809 3LCD Projectors At Bid On The City’s Bidding Center On 5th Avenue In New York City --
New York City based real estate agency Bid on the City hired CitiNet Consulting to install and maintain two Hitachi CP-X809 3LCD projectors at its 5th Avenue bidding center location. Bid on the City utilizes video technology to distinguish itself in a challenging economic climate.
Bid on the City is a real estate trading platform that offers online and in-person bidding on residential and commercial properties worldwide. Bid on the City presents a level of transparency for buyers and sellers not currently offered through traditional real estate brokerage companies. Properties are sold 30 days after being listed with buyers bidding in real time on Bid on the City’s platform, negotiating the best possible price. Bidding occurs simultaneously online and in person at the bidding center. The bidding is streamed live globally via the Internet.
“Bid on the City is an effective way to gauge the true value of a property, it’s a completely transparent process,” said Raymond Villani, managing director for Bid on the City. “We simply bring the buyer and seller together.”
CitiNet Consulting set up a podium and a ceiling-mounted Hitachi CP-X809 projector, displaying properties on a Da-Lite HC Da-Mat Tensioned Contour Electrol screen 14 feet from the projector in the main room at the bidding center. “We found the Hitachi projector to be the ideal solution for the bidding center because of its brightness and reliability at a very low price,” said Kirill Bezrodnykh of CitiNet Consulting.
A ceiling-mounted CP-X809 projector emits 5,000 lumen images behind a 40.25” x 53.75” Da-Lite Halo screen at the front window of the Bid on the City store location, creating a large and continuously changing display of Bid on the City’s properties. “When we designed the front of the store, we were enamored by the Hitachi projector in the bidding center,” said Raymond Villani, managing director for Bid on the City. “We wanted to be cutting-edge, not just for the sake of being cutting-edge, but in an effective manner. Denis and Kirill of CitiNet Consulting responded with this unique configuration of the projector and the screen, and it was immediately seized upon and brilliantly executed.”
Almost immediately, the front window display had a positive impact on Bid on the City’s business. “One of our goals is to ultimately have BOTC branches across the world, building a truly global brand,” Mr. Villani added. “Within a week of the installation, we had a gentleman come in off the street after viewing the display, and now he is opening a Moscow branch of BOTC. Recently, we notice people walking into the store because of the display everyday—people that might otherwise walk right by.”
“I believe BOTC’s business model proves that challenging economic conditions breed innovation. If there are ways for us to market ourselves differently and more effectively to distinguish ourselves from the competition, we see that as a worthwhile investment,” Mr. Villani said. “Our digital signage solutions utilizing the Hitachi projectors exemplify that approach.”
The project also exemplifies the ongoing convergence of IT and audio/video technologies, which has provided a challenge and an opportunity for companies like CitiNet Consulting to expand their range of services. “The majority of our business has been networking and IT for businesses, but this technology is now extending to video hardware, providing us with the ability to grow the scope of our business to include those products and services,” said Denis Kozlov of CitiNet Consulting.
The CP-X809 projector is designed to facilitate ceiling mounting in mid to large-size spaces and offers a number of features for easy maintenance. The CP-X809 also uses inorganic LCD panels, which feature a higher resistance to light. This translates into longer operational life for the projector, and better picture quality during the life of the projector. The CP-X809’s hybrid filter provides longer operation with less frequent maintenance and cleaning. With the lamp door on top and a side-mounted filter, maintenance and replacement of these parts can be done easily, even when the projector is ceiling-mounted.

University of Idaho Utilizes Hitachi StarBoards To Create 21st Century Educational Experience In Science Classes
- Science Classes Use Hitachi Interactive Whiteboards to Enhance Teaching Materials and Learning Objects -
Professors at the University of Idaho have chosen Hitachi interactive whiteboards in a move that greatly enhances the school’s science class and laboratory teaching technology. Purchased through Troxell Communications, the school utilizes the FXDUO-77 model StarBoard along with the award winning Hitachi CP-A100 3LCD projector as part of the Hitachi CP-A100+FXDUO bundle.
The professors immediately noticed the benefits of utilizing the combination of the Hitachi projector with the interactive whiteboard. “Before when we were utilizing a traditional projector, there was always a shadow which created a distraction when presenting,” stated Ronald Robberecht, Professor of Rangeland Ecology at the University of Idaho. “Utilizing the Hitachi short throw projector has resulted in completely eliminating the shadow effect.”
According to Robberecht his students have enjoyed the addition of the interactive whiteboard into lectures in the lab setting. “Utilizing the StarBoard makes a difference to the students, they like it and it certainly adds value to the lectures. We can view ecological topics in a very interactive manner where images, videos, and text can be easily combined with the powerful dynamic annotation features of the Starboard.”
Robberecht noted that other professors use the Starboards for courses on geographical information systems (GIS) where various information such as soil types, species, forests and grasslands, and related geographical information can be shown in interacting layers of a landscape.
“Also, having a StarBoard in my office allows me to hold research meetings there. Rather than having all the students crouch around a desktop monitor. Now they can look at the images and lecture material comfortably on the large screen. Using the Starboard really allows for a natural interactive teaching interface.”
The university has also utilized StarBoards for numerous other applications. “We have one StarBoard that is being connected with a field campus where they are teaching ecology to fifth and sixth graders,” stated Robberecht.
“We attached a web cam to the StarBoard so now we utilize it as a tool for video conferencing as well.”
Based on experiences thus far the university will certainly be considering Hitachi for future technology needs. “As our smaller classrooms and seminar rooms are renovated the new Hitachi Starboards will be integral to the renovations because the price is right, the technology is great, and the service and support we have received has been excellent,” said Robberecht.

New CPX4 3LCD Hitachi Projector Offers Optimal Combination Of Portability, Performance And Convenience

-- The CPX4 Features Networking Functionality, Wireless Connectivity And A Short-Throw Lens --
CHULA VISTA, Calif., November 24, 2008 — Designed for portability and reliability with a host of enhanced features, Hitachi Home Electronics (America), Inc., Business Group today introduced the CPX4 3LCD projector. The new CPX4 projector weighs only 4.1 pounds, yet offers a brightness of 2,000 ANSI lumens and a variety of connectivity options.
The CPX4 offers networking capability, allowing for easy maintenance and monitoring. Through a wired or wireless LAN connection, an AV/IT administrator can monitor and diagnose the condition of every projector on the network. Additionally, the timing of switching the projector’s power on and off can be automatically set from a computer. When the CPX4 is connected to the network, it accesses the server and automatically matches its clock to the server time. Users can also control and monitor the projector(s) from a web browser without having to download and install application software. Moreover, when connecting an external hard disk to the projector, image data can be transmitted and deleted via the network.
With Hitachi’s proprietary My Image functionality, AV/IT administrators can transfer still images, such as emergency alerts, from a PC to each projector on the network. When the My Image function is utilized, the images are automatically displayed on all the projectors, including ones that are not in use at the time.
This is ideal for applications in which multiple projectors are networked across a large space, such as a school, campus or large corporate environment.
The CPX4 also offers wireless connectivity, making it even easier to set up a presentation. Additionally, the CPX4’s Multi-Screen function allows four computer screens to be displayed simultaneously and wirelessly. The CPX4 is also enabled to display content via USB storage devices, SD cards or HDD media players, allowing for PC-less presentation. The CPX4 also enables easy setup with its Quick Start function, automatic vertical keystone correction, and resolution setting (allowing users to select the most appropriate screen ratio).
With a short-throw lens that displays 60-inch images at a distance of 4.9 feet, the CPX4 can be placed close to the screen, eliminating obstruction of the image. Adding to the user’s convenience are advanced features exclusive to Hitachi projectors such as My Screen, My Memory and My Button. A built-in 1W speaker means no need for external audio devices, while the projector itself maintains a low noise level of 29 dB in Whisper Mode.
“As schools, businesses and houses of worship continue to implement projection technology, the criteria for selecting the ideal product remains consistent—performance, portability, ease of use and affordability,” said John Glad, product manager, Hitachi Home Electronics (America), Inc., Business Group. “By offering advanced connectivity, light weight and a short-throw lens, the CPX4 projector addresses all these needs at a very reasonable price point.”

The CP-X10000 features inorganic optics, which means longer projector life. The CP-X10000 also offers a 10,000-hour filter, making maintenance easier than ever before. The ultra-wide range lens shift and 10-bit full digital video processing add a new level of dynamic presentation, while networking connectivity enables remote maintenance and management.
Adding to the versatility of the CP-X10000 projector are six bayonet-style lens options, which offer a wide range of throw distances for different size audiences. The CP-X10000 includes an RS-232 network bridge for serial pass through, along with a mechanical shutter for blank mode. The CP-X10000 also offers Closed Captioning functionality.
In designing the CP-X10000, Hitachi also placed strong emphasis on security, as the projector features Hitachi’s proprietary My Image Campus Notification System. Anti-theft features include a security bar and transition detector.
“As projectors have become more viable solutions for very large environments, including rental and staging, the demand for advanced flexibility and connectivity is equal to the demand for brightness and clarity,” said John Glad, product manager, Hitachi Home Electronics (America), Inc., Business Group. “The CP-X10000 3LCD Professional Series projector meets all these criteria while maintaining an affordable price point.”
